Werner E. Fass, age 88 of Plainfield, IL died unexpectedly at his home on Feb. 17, 2015. He was born in Heilbronn, Germany on Dec. 14, 1926. He attended school in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1947, settling in the Chicago area. He served in the U.S. Army and later became a Tool & Die Maker with Snow Manufacturing in Bellwood, IL, retiring as a field engineer. He was married to Margaret Schmidt Faas on April 5, 1952 in Chicago. They travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, enjoyed cruises, and spent their Winters in Florida. Werner especially enjoyed fishing on the St. Joseph River on visits to family in Mendon.
Werner is survived by his wife, Margaret (Schmidt) Faas of Plainfield, IL; sister in law Betty (Richard) Clark of St. Charles, IL; sister in law, Barbara Schmidt of Mendon; two nephews, John Schmidt of Mendon and Werner Schmidt of Ft. Wayne, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers in law, Gustav and Karl Schmidt; and sister in law, Irmgard Schmidt.
Funeral services will be 11 AM on Monday March 2, 2015 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon with Rev. David Grimm, Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Churches in Colon and Centreville officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
