Susie Mae McKay, age 86 of Kalamazoo, died Friday, July 23, 2021 at Medilodge of Westwood where she had resided the past year. She was born in Huntsville, AL on March 25, 1935 the daughter of the late John L. and Eunice (Lang) Dempsey. She was married to Kenneth Wayne McKay in Georgia on Dec. 19, 1954. He died on Sep. 12, 2013. Susie was a homemaker who also worked as a cook in Florida restaurants and at the former Hope's Nursing Home in Lawton. She also worked briefly at Engineered Plastic Components of Mattawan, and was a member of the Church of God.

Susie is survived by a daughter, Sherry McKay of Kalamazoo; grandson Toby New; great-grandson, Austin Casanto; and great-great grandson, Brayden Casanto; brother, Jimmy Dempsey; sisters Ann (John) Campbell and Reba Carter; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; brothers Virgil, Bobby, John, Harrison, and Roy Dempsey and James Earl; sisters, Theresa Glomb and Faye Carlisle.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 am Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at the Eickhoff funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will begin at 11 am Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Gene French officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery.
