Susan Kay Wheeler, age 73 of Colon passed away unexpectedly at her home on September 30, 2024.  She was born in Vicksburg on July 9, 1951 the daughter of Carl and Verna (Nichols) Heath.  On June 20, 2008 Susan would marry Don Wheeler at King's Mill in Leonidas.  Susan was a simple woman who enjoyed the simple things in life.  She would often be seen reading books, especially romance and mystery novels.  Susan had a reputation of loving sweet treats, and ice cream was her favorite go-to.  Playing euchre with her friends and family was something Susan looked forward to.  She loved her little town of Leonidas and Colon and cherished the friendships she has made over the years.  Family was very important to Susan and she loved her family dearly.

Susan is survived by her siblings; Tom Heath, Jerry (Leanna) Heath, and Dixie (Bob) Jackson; her best friend, Lena Fitch; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don Wheeler; son Richard "Richie" Heath; brother Richard Heath; brother Douglas Heath; nephew Doug Heath; and sister-in-law Sharon Heath.

In keeping with Susan's wishes, cremation is being conducted.  A graveside service will be held at Leonidas Cemetery on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 5pm with Pastor Dave Stevens officiating.  Memorials or donations made in Susan's name may be made to the family.  Condolences and memories may be expressed to Susan's family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
