Obituary

Stanley L. Detwiler, Jr., age 90 of Niles, passed away on December 7, 2025.  He was born in Three Rivers, Michigan on August 22, 1935 the son of Stanley Sr. and Laura (Halstead) Detwiler.  Stan attended Three Rivers High School and was part of the 1953 graduating class.  Following high school, Stan would join the United States Navy, where he would proudly serve his country for 6 years.  On August 19, 1988 he would marry Georgia Abnet and had 34 wonderful years together before her passing in 2022.

Stan loved the outdoors and was often found on the water.  He fished the local waters for perch and bluegill.  He did his best to hide his favorite fishin' hole (but everyone knew).  He was an avid hunter, trapped snapping turtles, and bull frogging.  When Stan wasn't catching or trapping, he was tending to his large garden of tomatoes.  He was talented in the kitchen and his famous caramel popcorn was always anticipated.  Stan was competitive at heart, whether it was fast pitch softball, high school football, or a simple game of cards, he wanted to win.  He enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash, watching John Wayne, cheering for his Tigers and Lions, and crushing your hand as he shook hello.

Stan is survived by his two daughters; Laurie Paro and Melody Decker; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended families.  He was preceded in passing by his parents; Stan Sr. and Laura Detwiler; his siblings; Dwayne, Melvin, and Marquita; his wife; Georgia Detwiler; and his son; Kenny Detwiler.

Visitation for Stan will be on Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 1pm until 4pm at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, MI.  Following visitation, cremation will be conducted.  A graveside service will be held for Stanley on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 12pm at Peek Cemetery (63069 Constantine Road, Constantine, MI 49042) where he will also be honored by the United States Navy.  Condolences and memories may be expressed to his family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
