Obituary

Robert D. "Denny" Pohl, age 70 of Mendon died Saturday March 22, 2014 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 12, 1943 the son of Robert Edmund and Virginia Ann (Pawlowski) Pohl. He attended schools in Toledo and Atlanta, GA before serving in the Air Force from 1963-65. Denny then settled in the Kalamazoo area where he worked briefly for the Upjohn Company. Most of his working life was installing and repairing elevators for the Independent Elevator Company. Following his retirement he enjoyed working at Car Quest in Sturgis. Denny was a former member of the I.U.E.C. Local 85 of Lansing, and had served as a board member of Keystone Place in Centreville.

Denny was married to the former Amy Roberts on June 15, 2012. She survives along with three children, Amy (Brian) Doxtater of Mattawan, Kimberly (Trey) Warren of Portage, and Neil (Leslie) Pohl of Otsego; a step-son, Jeremiah Payne of Mendon; seven grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Smith of Scotts; and several nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother in law, David Smith.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering celebrating the birthday and life of Denny will be held Saturday April 12th beginning at 4 p.m. at Gibby's in downtown Mendon. The family suggests that memorial donations be directed to Keystone Place, 505 East Market St., Centreville, MI 49032. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.
