Robert James "Bob" DeGrote, age 66 of Mendon died Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at his home . He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on April 6, 1951 the son of James R. and Lora D. (Steen) DeGrote. He attended elementary school in Vicksburg, Parkville, and Mendon. He graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1969, and later attended Glen Oaks Community College where he learned to be a Tool and Die maker. Bob was a 46 year employee of the Haas Corporation in Mendon which later became Lear Plastics, and is now known as International Automotive Corp. He was a long-time volunteer with the Mendon Fire Department. In his spare time he enjoyed target shooting and restoring vintage Volkswagen Beetles.

Bob was married to Sandra Jean Myers in Dowagiac on May 1, 1970. She survives along with two children, Aaron (Tami Pressler) DeGrote of Kalamazoo, and Amy (Robert) Gonser of Mendon; eight grandchildren, Korryn, Josslyn, Aidan, Lacie, Robby III, Kace, Kaidee, and Kohl; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Robby IV, and Ava; two sisters, Doris (David) Newton, and Patricia DeGrote; a niece, Barbara Payne; mother in law, Roberta Myers; brothers in law, Jim Myers and Richard Myers; sister in law, Ruth Lovell. He was preceded in death by his parents; and s sister, Jeannette Davidson.

In keeping with his wishes cremation has been conducted, and no services are planned at this time. It is suggested that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
