Richard Duane "Dick" Hitzeman, age 86 of Watersmeet and formerly of Mendon died Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 at Stoneleigh Hospice Residence in Lansing. He was born near Mendon on May 6, 1933 the son of the late Fred G. and Mildred H. (Luck) Hitzeman. He graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1952, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was married and later divorced from Nancy Lomison, and they had two daughters, Debbie and Becky. Dick worked at the Haas Corporation in Mendon before moving to Lansing where he owned and operated the Longbranch Bar for several years.

Dick was married to Colleen McGinty on Nov. 1, 1975 in Lansing. They resided at Countryside Village in Perry where Dick was the maintenance supervisor, retiring in 1995. Dick was an avid outdoorsman who loved, hunting, fishing, trips out west, and his home on the shore of County Line Lake in Watersmeet. He was a great story-teller and greatly enjoyed visits with family and friends. He enjoyed all sports, and rooted for Michigan State University.

Dick is survived by his wife, Colleen and her six children; 2 daughters, Debbie and Becky; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Batten and her two sons; and aunt, Norma Frays.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. Memorial services are being planned for 1 pm Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Sacred Heart Church in Ewen, Michigan followed by military interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
