Richard LaVerne Harris, age 72 of Mendon, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 22, 2025. He was born in Albion, MI on September 15, 1953 the son of Clair and Katherine (Nickerson) Harris.  Richard attended Albion High School and was part of the 1971 graduating class.  In 1982 Richard would marry Valinda Root, they would later divorce.

For nearly 40 years, Richard worked at Aquatic Co. in Three Rivers, MI.  During that time, he also worked at Meijer as a butcher.  In his younger years, Richard earned his butchering journeyman's license, also working at the Albion Meat Locker.   His work ethic was unmatched, making sure those closest to him were always provided for.  Richard was a very giving person, donating to MANY charities, ensuring first responders and children were always taken care of.  He enjoyed riding his Harley down country roads, dreaming of fishing on Lake Erie, and tending to his gardens.  Richard loved planting trees, making his own orchards and fruit gardens.  Providing tacos and bbq dishes to the entire neighborhood was always a highlight to many.  Richard was a people person, always seeing the good in others.  After a long day's work, sitting on his back porch and simply enjoying the quiet time in nature was a must.  He loved his family, he loved his children, but his grandchildren made him smile the most.

Richard is survived by his two children; Charles (Daisy) Harris and Amber Harris; six grandchildren; Rayne, Summer, Charlee, Braxton, Thomas, and Miloh; four siblings; Bob (Kathy) Harris, Linda (Jim) Hess, Roger (Teresa) Harris, and Reginald Harris; his aunt, Carol Nickerson-Pellegrini; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended families.  He was preceded in passing by his parents, Clair and Katherine Harris.

A memorial service for Richard will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1pm at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, MI with Pastor Jim Sirks officiating. Condolences and memories may be expressed to his family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
