Obituary

Paul Arthur Guthrie, age 75 of rural Three Rivers, died Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.  He was born in Battle Creek on Dec. 4, 1946 the son of the late Robert M. and Alma M. (Denney) Guthrie and was a lifetime resident of the Mendon area.  He graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1965, and was married to Charlene J. Holmes on Sep. 30, 1966 in Kalamazoo.  He was employed at the Haas Corporation, which later was known as Lear Plastics in Mendon for thirty-three years.

Paul graduated from the Hinkley School of Auctioneering in 1981, and was known as The Colonel at local auctions.  He was a member of the St. Joe Valley Old Engine Association, and the Florida Fly-Wheelers.  He was an officer and member of U.A.W Local 503. He also served as a County and State delegate for the Democratic Party. Paul enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and gardening.  Always ready to lend a helping hand, Paul continues to enrich the lives of others by being an organ donor. He was an avid Mendon sports booster, and will long be remembered for his shouts of "Block-Green-Block" and "Defense"!

Paul is survived by his wife, Charlene; daughter Rhonda (Paul) Griffin of Breedsville, and son, Kirt (Michelle) Guthrie of Middlebury, IN; Seven grandchildren, Naomi (Brian) Luttrell, Jerimiah (Savanna) Wood, Paul Griffin, Jr., Joshua Wood, Jeff Griffin, Mackenzie Guthrie, and Alyssa Guthrie; eight great-grandchildren. sister, Grace (Art) Gregory of Elkhart, and brother, Robin (Barbara) Guthrie of Hartford, CT. nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, DaNita Guthrie; and a granddaughter, Natasha Wood.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held at West Mendon Community Church on July 30, 2022 at 1pm with Ray Doyle officiating.
