Obituary

Merlin C. Huff, age 91 of Mendon, died peacefully at home on Thursday, June 16, 2022.  He was born in Sherwood, Michigan on Oct. 13, 1930 the son of Lee and Edna (Thrams) Huff and has been a lifetime resident of Mendon. He attended Mendon Schools and then served in the U.S. Army with the 64 th AAA Gun Battalion. He was married to Janet Roop on June 19, 1954.  Merlin was employed both before and after the war by the St. Joseph County Road Commission, retiring in 1992.

Merlin was a member of the Mendon United Methodist Church, and an active member of the former V.F.W. Post 4898. He was also a member of the Mendon Grange, and served as a Boy Scout Master for over fifty years. He enjoyed deer hunting up north and travel, and was honored with a Talons Out trip to Washington, DC in 2017.

Merlin is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Janet; three children, Gayle Coffinger of Mendon, Larry (Gail) Huff of Mendon, and Michelle (Ken) Wood of Colon; nine grandchildren, KG Wood, Heather Farrand, Nick Huff, Tricia Huff, Tracy Patnoude, Shane Patnoude, Klair Patnoude, Kristina Morgan, and Heather Stewart; nine great-grandchildren, Marshall, Kendall, Jacquelynn, and Emberlynn Farrand, Aubrey and Brooklynn Huff, Leighton, Logan, and Everleigh Thornton;a brother, Dave (Shirley) Huff; three sisters, Charlene Timm, Jeannine Hire, and Leanell (Tom) Schwartz; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Marlin Huff; and brothers in law, Steve Hire and Wayne Timm.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Sunday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon.  Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, June 20, 2022 at the Mendon United Methodist Church with Pastor Carl Litchfield officiating.  Military interment will be in Mendon Cemetery. It is suggested that memorial donations be directed to either the Mendon United Methodist Church, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.   Memories and condolences may be shared at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
