Memorial Day
Parade
d. May 23, 2018
As you've already figured out, this is NOT an obituary, but a way to communicate what is happening with our annual Memorial Day Parade. Memorial Day IS NOT dead, and it is VERY important that we pay homage to our veterans and their families. My thanks to Rev. Bryan Balasa for providing the details in his news-line "Staying Connected." Feel free to remember your family members in the "Sign Guest Book" section of the notice.
Please help make the Mendon Memorial Day Parade a success. This is an invitation to all community members to participate in honoring those that have served our nation. We'd be honored if all veterans and current military men and women would please come out and march in our annual Memorial Day Parade. Please assemble at the Mendon Public Library by 11:45 AM. Uniforms are optional, but not necessary. Patriotic floats are also welcome. Those wishing to be in the parade should line up in front of the fire station on Burr Oak Street no later than 11:30 AM.
Additionally, all children are invited to decorate their bikes or walk in patriotic costumes in the parade. Children should line up behind the floats before 11:30 AM, when judging their decorated costumes and bikes will take place. Children's prizes will be awarded for decorated bikes, tricycles, wagons, and walkers. Categories are by age: Pre K-1 st grade, 2 nd -4 th grade, 5 th -6 th grade, and 7 th -8 th grade. Prizes will be awarded for 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd places in each category. 1 st place: $25.00, 2 nd place: $10.00, 3 rd place: $5.00.
Please pass this information on to your family and friends. The more people to participate, the better the parade will be. We are hoping for the traditional great family event from yesteryears to pass on to our youth.
For more information about the parade, or to register your entry, contact the village office at 496-4395, or Patty McClain at 269-273-8030.
