Margaret "Peggy" Ann Hartman was called to her heavenly home on January 7, 2023, at the age of 89. Peggy spent 50 years of her life living in Pigeon, Michigan with her husband James (Jim) Hartman. In 2011, Peggy and Jim moved to Canton, Michigan to be closer to their children and grandchildren. After Jim passed away in 2017, Peggy moved in with her son Michael Hartman and his wife Dawn. In 2019 Peggy moved in with her daughter Stacie Kingsbury and her husband Bob in Vicksburg, Michigan where she remained until her passing.
Peggy was born in Bay Port, Michigan on September 16, 1933. She was the only child of Warren R. and Mildred M. (Davies) McIntyre. She graduated from Pigeon High School in 1951 and attended one year at Michigan State University studying secretarial and business. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Hartman on May 20, 1953.
After following her Navy husband from Waukegan, Illinois; to Bremerton, Washington; to Los Angeles, California; they came back to Michigan and eventually settled back in Pigeon, taking over the family business, the W.R. McIntyre Insurance Agency. Peggy and Jim operated the insurance business until their retirement 30 years later in 1993.
While living in Pigeon, Peggy was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She spent many years as one of four organists and was an accompanist for St. John's choir. Peggy was the St. John's church secretary and a member and officer of St. John's Lutheran Women's Society. After moving to Canton, MI she became a member of Our Savior Lutheran in Westland. Most recently, while living in Vicksburg, Michigan Peggy was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Portage.
During her many years in Pigeon, Peggy was a very active member of the community. She was a member and officer of the Pigeon area Woman's Club, a member and officer of the Pigeon Historical Society, and a member and officer of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Peggy was a member and co-director of the Huron County Sweet Adeline's and was also a driver for Meals On Wheels; delivering food to shut-ins in the Pigeon area.
Peggy enjoyed spending time with her children and grand children. Family meant everything to her. She also enjoyed reading, playing word search puzzles, playing solitaire on her phone, daily walks in the neighborhood, golf cart rides, and cheering on her favorite football team; the Michigan State Spartans.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hartman, and her granddaughter, Jessica Kingsbury. She is survived by her daughter Stacie (Bob) Kingsbury of Vicksburg, Michigan, her son Michael (Dawn) Hartman of Bluffton, South Carolina; and her grandchildren Olivia (Brendan) Roshak of Columbia, South Carolina, Gregory Hartman of Ishpeming, Michigan, and Sophia Hartman of Bluffton, South Carolina. Peggy is also survived by her great-grandchild, Sloan Margaret Ann Roshak who was born on September 28, 2022.
A Christian memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 33333 Warren Rd, Westland, Michigan 48185 with Pastor Guy Purdue officiating. A second memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 2381 Romence Rd., Portage, Michigan 49024 with Pastor David Rau officiating. There will be a live stream at this location. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with the service following at 11:00 a.m. for both dates.
A committal service will be scheduled at a later date at New Bay Port Cemetery in Fairhaven Township, Huron County, MI.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, Michigan.
