Louis Zoltan Zagon departed this earth on July 13, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lou was born on January 2, 1954, in Spittal an der Drau, Austria. In 1956, he immigrated to the United States with his parents, Louis and Julianna Zagon, and two of his three siblings.

Lou lived in Michigan for a short time before his family moved to California. In 1978, he returned to Michigan, where he built both his career and his life. He worked for the Dover-Ronningen-Petter Corporation in Portage for 29 years until the company closed. He then joined Armstrong International in Three Rivers, where he remained until his retirement in April 2023. Although born in Austria, Lou proudly became a United States citizen, an accomplishment that meant a great deal to him.

Lou loved coaching his boys. He coached Eric in the 1980s and later Derek in the 2000s in Rocket Football and Little League Baseball. Even years later, many of his former players—now adults—still greeted him as "Coach" whenever they saw him at sporting events.

An avid golfer, Lou enjoyed long weekend golf trips with his buddies, whether to the Carolinas or Northern Michigan, often playing 36 to 54 holes a day. He rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his children and later his grandchildren at Mendon sporting events. This past year, he faithfully followed the football team on television, proudly watching his grandson compete.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Dawn Zagon; his children, Eric Zagon, Derek (Kristen) Zagon, and Erin (Mike) Kloster; his daughter-in-law, Megan Zagon; his six grandchildren, Zakary (Darian) Zagon, Alex Zagon, Bryce Zagon, Alyssa Kloster, Amanda Kloster, and Ashley Kloster; his two great-granddaughters, Isla Zagon and Eliza Zagon; several nieces and nephews, and his brother, Andy (Pam) Zagon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Julianna Zagon, and his brother, Chuck Zagon.

Above all else, Lou loved his family. May he rest in peace.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for Lou will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 W. Main St., Mendon, MI 49072) from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with a celebration of Lou's life beginning at 12:00 p.m.
