Larry Bruce Nickell, age 72 of Mendon, died Friday, August 25, 2023 at his home.  He was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on January 25, 1951 while his father was serving in the military.  Larry graduated from Centreville High School with the class of 1969 before serving his country in the U.S. Army. Upon his return he attended Glen Oaks Community College and worked as a machinist at the Harter Corporation, E.L. Nickell, Syndicated Systems, True Heat, and most recently for Green Leaf in Kalamazoo.

Larry enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, playing golf, and tending his horses.  He was a member of the St. Joseph County Sheriff Posse for twenty-six and a half years, and the Allegan County Sheriff Posse for eleven years.

Larry is survived by a son, Travis "TJ" Nickell of Three Rivers; a daughter, Dawn Hillman of Battle Creek; granddaughter, Madelyn Hillman of Battle Creek; two brothers, Lonnie (Orla) Nickell of LaGrange and Lenny (Lisa) Nickell of Sturgis; his ex-wife and friend, Sue Stevenson of Mendon; nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Marilyn and Timothy Pardon.
