Jon L
Crabtree
d. Jun 8, 2022
Jon Lynn Crabtree died Wednesday June 8, 2022 at Rose Arbor Hospice of cancer at the age of 79, about a week or so shy of 80. He was a lifelong resident of Mendon and a graduate of Mendon High School. He retired from Lear Corporation.
He met Casey Gould at work, and they married June 17, 1965. While they later divorced, he always spoke of her with great respect. On October 8, 1994 he married Nancy Allen. He thought the world of her, deeming her to be "a good egg", which was one of his favorite descriptions of good people. He loved being a granddad, and doted on their grandchildren in the sweetest ways. He loved being Papa.
Jon was a devoted Detroit Tigers fan, though like any longtime Tigers fan he got real tired of their nonsense. He had many great experiences going to Tigers games, and met a number of his childhood baseball heroes, most notably Mickey Lolich. He was also a Lions fan, but the less said about that, the better.
He enjoyed science and history, and had a great collection of Michigan rocks and could tell you the geology of most of Michigan. He had an inquisitive mind that was interested in a great and diverse array of things. He loved the internet, but he would have happily carried his old Nokia flip phone forever.
The Crossroads Missionary Church in Mendon was a big part of his life. He ran the vacuum, cut the grass, set up tables and chairs, and made himself as generally useful as he could behind the scenes. He had a strong faith that gave him much comfort.
He taught us that the pun is the greatest form of wit and humor, closely followed by the dad joke. There wasn't much he enjoyed more than a good clean laugh, and we had so many of them over the years.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, and his combined family, Amy Campbell of Kalamazoo, Luci Falkenberg (Andrew) of Portage, Brenda Austin (Carl) of Mendon, Ashley Takace (Aaron) of Kalamazoo, Lori Higgins (Greg) of Mendon, Kathy Dahl of Kalamazoo, Daniel Allen (Judy Lorine) of Belton, Texas, and Michael Allen of Los Angeles, California. He is also survived by his brothers Jay Crabtree (Linda) of Fisher Lake, Jerry Crabtree of Vicksburg, Jean Crabtree (Jane) of White Cloud, MI and Joel Crabtree of Mendon. There is also a large crowd of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
Jon donated his body to the WMU School of Medicine for scientific study. There will be a memorial at Crossroads Missionary Church (22605 M-60, Mendon, MI) on Saturday, July 30, 2022, beginning at Noon. Instead of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jon's name to Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes, or the Crossroads Missionary Church.
