Obituary

John Joseph Stafinski, age 92 of Vicksburg died Friday, March 17, 2017 at Kairo's Dwelling in Kalamazoo. He was born in Vicksburg on Feb. 1, 1925 the youngest son of John and Catherine (Grubka) Stafinski and was a lifetime resident of Vicksburg. After graduating from Vicksburg High School, John enlisted in the Army Air Force in June of 1943. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, earning 2 Bronze Battle Stars. Following his military discharge in 1946, John attended General Motors Institute. He used his mechanical skills at the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo for 34 years until his retirement. John enjoyed playing golf, bowling, fishing, and enjoyed watching all sports on television.

John was married to Barbara Hook on Oct. 21, 1962 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kalamazoo. She survives along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Louis, Frank, Ed, Joe, and Carl Stafinski; and by three sisters, Harriet Pultorak, Violet Smith, and Rose Gordnier.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 10:30 AM in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Vicksburg with Monsignor Thomas Martin officiating. Interment and military rites will be conducted at 1:30 PM in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Kairo's Dwelling, 2945 Gull Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49048.
