John Alvin Rittman, age 70 of Mendon died Wednesday Feb. 4, 2015 at his home. He was born in Manhattan, New York on Aug. 8, 1944 the son of the late George and Delphine (Lawrence) Rittman. He graduated from Garfield High School and took college courses in Terre Haute. He later graduated from Western Michigan University and was a schoolteacher at Colon High School for 33 years. John was a history and old car buff, and enjoyed reading.

John was married to Linda (Johnson) Rittman in 1963. She survives along with three children, John Darrell (Roxie) Rittman of Sturgis, Lorie Ann (Dan) Stevens of Muldrow, OK, and Katherine Darlene (Chad) Smith of Hudsonville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rebecca Jackson of Virginia.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday Feb. 7, 2015 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with David Farrell officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery. Memorials will be directed to the family.
