John Marvin McClain, age 75 of Mendon, died Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on Jan 13, 1947 to Dana Stout and J. Jeanne (Simpson) Stout. Following their divorce, Jeanne was remarried to G. Henry McClain in 1951, and John was adopted by Henry. John graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1965, then served in the U.S. Air Force in Viet Nam. He was married to Patricia "Patty" Jones on Feb. 15, 1969 in Mendon. John graduated from Michigan State University in 1973. He was self employed as a sales representative for numerous companies throughout the Midwest and established several of his own businesses. John served on the Mendon Village Council and enjoyed talking politics at the round table over morning coffee. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and boating on Fisher Lake. John enjoyed making his grandchildren feel special by sharing their many interests.
John is survived by his wife, Patty; three sons, Joshua (Ann) McClain of Mason, OH, Zachary (Lindsey) McClain of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Nicholas (Christy) McClain of North Muskegon, MI; a daughter, Megan (Andy) Motz of Three Rivers; nine grandchildren, Payton, Colton, Lincoln, Maxwell, Everett, and Meredith McClain, Henry "Hank" Motz, Calvin Motz, and Arthur Motz; two brothers, Tom (Cheryl) McClain of Sun City, AZ, and Dick (Kim) McClain of South Bend; sister in law, Mary McClain of Sturgis; Aunt, Mary Spealman; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeanne and Henry McClain; sister, Dana Lohraff; and brother, Dr. James McClain.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Sunday, May 8, 2022 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. The funeral mass will be 11 am Monday, May 9, 2022 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Msgr. Thomas Martin officiating. Burial will be in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. It is suggested that memorial donations be directed to either the Community Food Program at Mendon Community Schools, or to the Mendon Community Schools Foundation.
