Three Rivers
Joanne Shutes, age 84 of Three Rivers, died Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at her home following a very brief illness. She was born in Mendon on September 23, 1939 the daughter of John and Susie (Van Voorhis) Wolfe and was a lifetime resident of the Mendon-Three Rivers area. She graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1957, and attended Western Michigan University. Joanne was married to Richard A. "Dick" Shutes on February 7, 1959 in the Mendon United Methodist Church.
She was a lifetime member of the Mendon United Methodist Church and the Miriam Circle. She was a volunteer with the Three Rivers Area Hospital Auxiliary and the Mendon Sports Boosters. Joanne enjoyed tennis and golfing in several area leagues. She especially enjoyed holiday baking and following her children and grandchildren to sporting events.
Joanne is survived by three children, Kathryn (Cameron) Spence, and Steven (Judi) Shutes both of Three Rivers, and Brianna (Jon) May of Chelsea; ten grandchildren, Abby (Larry) Mencke, Adam (Kaylee) Spence, Emily (Samath) Dewasurendra, Dan Shutes, Drew (Sydney) Shutes, Sam (McKenna) Shutes, Mikaela (Clifford Long) May, Jenna May, Tristan May, and Trevor May; seven great-grandchildren, Esther, Isaiah, Jack, Ellie, Henry, Max, and Lennon; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick in 2013; two infant sons; brother, Dale Wolfe; and sisters, Sarah Cross and Martha Myers.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Friday, February 16, 2024 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the Mendon United Methodist Church in Mendon with Pastor Carl Litchfield and Rev. Clint Zehr officiating. Following a luncheon, interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to either Three Rivers Health Homecare and Hospice, or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
