Obituary

Herbert G. Steffey, age 92 of Mendon, passed away at is home surrounded by his loving family on February 7, 2025.  He was born on October 10, 1932 in Little Shoal, Kentucky the son of Willie and Mary (Chaney) Steffey.  Herbert would honorably serve his country with the United States Army.  Following his army days, he would marry Susan Misener on September 11, 1959 in Pontiac, Michigan and would have 51 wonderful years together before her passing in 2010.  Herbert would find love again and marry Rose Fair on October 8, 2011 on the beautiful St. Joe River in a pontoon.  Herbert worked for over 40 years as a journeyman in sheet metal working and was part of the local #292.  He enjoyed taking fishing trips to Canada, the U.P., and any body of water that potentially had fish to catch; that experience was extra special however if he was accompanied with a grandson.  He would often be seen tending to his vegetable garden, cleaning up his yard, and rabbit hunting; anything outdoors Herbert loved.  He was a master tinkerer, attended many yard sales, and in his younger years was a horseshoe champion.   Cheering on the Detroit Tigers with his family that he loved dearly while listening to bluegrass gospel music was Herbert's ideal day.

Herbert is survived by his loving wife, Rose Steffey; two children; Debra (Dale) Baker of Mendon, Michigan and Herbert Jr. (Carol) Steffey of Spring Hill, Florida; four grandchildren; Alicia (John) Shelton, Kari (Tom Putney) Baker, Brian Baker, and Jeff Welch; eight great-grandchildren; Isaac, Gabby, Kaylin, Michael, Emily, Autumn, Arianna, and Alyssa; and brother Clayton Steffey.  He was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Mary Steffey; siblings; Jacqueline, Phyllis, Geraldine, Paul, and Cleadus; and his first wife, Susan Steffey.

Visiting hours for Herbert will be held at New Beginnings Church (63022 M-66, Sturgis, MI 49091) on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 11am until 1pm, with funeral services beginning at 1pm with Pastor Randy Evans officiating.  Following the funeral cremation will be conducted.  It us suggested that donations be made to New Beginning Church.  Condolences and memories may be expressed to the family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
