Ernest George Fleetwood, Jr., age 60 of Mendon died unexpectedly at his home of natural causes. He was born in Vicksburg, MI on Oct. 20, 1954 the son of the late Ernest and Margaret (Smith) Fleetwood. He was a 1974 graduate of Vicksburg High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1978 to 1984. For many years Ernie worked as a cashier at Felpausch, Hardings, and Family Fare Grocery in Vicksburg until he retired due to poor health. He attended the Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene near Vicksburg. Ernie enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling, and playing baseball and softball.

Ernie was married to Sarah B. (Myers) Bates on July 24, 2009 in Centreville. She survives along with a son, Trenton (Chelsea) Napier of Kalamazoo; two brothers, Matthew (Tonya) Fleetwood of Wakarusa, IN and Michael (Karen) Fleetwood of Vicksburg; a sister, Naomi (Doc) Spicer of Leonidas; nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been conducted. A memorial interment and military honors will take place Tuesday May 12, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial donations will be directed to the family. An online register is available at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
