Doris J. Everson, age 92 of Mendon passed away April 14, 2016 at Elkhart General Hospital. Doris was born in Constantine on Jan. 30, 1924 the daughter of the late Samuel and Blanche (Hartman) VanNess. She was married to Alfred Everson on Jan. 3, 1942. He preceded her in death in 2000. Doris was a lifelong resident of Mendon. she enjoyed reading, gardening, garage sales, feeding the wild birds and animals in her little woods. She had a fascination with all kinds of history and loved to talk politics.

Surviving are her daughter, Dana (Arnold) Longfellow of Goshen; three grandchildren, Pat Longfellow, Brian Longfellow, and Mary Freshour; three great-grandchildren, James Weaver, Jeremiah Freshour, and Eric Longfellow; and by many loving nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Stella Hoover, Katherine VanZile/Dennison, Bernard VanNess, and Veryl Batten/Hochstetler.

A celebration of her life will be held later.
