Dennis
Bacon
Sep 7, 1939 — Oct 6, 2026
Dennis Edward Bacon, age 87 of Portage, MI passed away on October 6, 2026 at Rose Arbor Hospice following a brief illness. He was born in Estherville, Iowa on September 7, 1939 the son of Harold and Margaret (Greener) Bacon. Dennis attended Estherville High School and was part of the 1957 graduating class. Following high school, Dennis would enlist in the United States Air Force, and proudly served his country for 4 years. On March 11, 1959 he would marry the love of his life, Mary L. Allen in Battle Creek, MI. Dennis would then enlist in the United States Army, and serve again for 4 more years; a feat very few men would do. He would then find employment at Cello-Foil Products and worked there for 10 years; Dennis then worked at Yellow Freight driving semi-trucks for over 25 years.
Dennis was a sucker for old cars, motorcycles, and engines. He would spend many hours in his barn, tinkering on his Model A’s, Model T’s, rebuilding old motorcycles, Oldsmobiles, and fixing engines. When he wasn’t trying to rebuild his favorite modes of transportation, he found himself refinishing furniture, making it look as beautiful as the day it was built. Dennis and his wife Mary were members of Factoryville Bible Church in Athens, Family Bible Church in Marshall, and Leonidas Bible Church in Leonidas. They were always drawn to the children of the church, helping them in any way they could; teaching, traveling, and simply listening. Dennis and Mary opened their home to a foreign exchange student from Brazil, Cecilia, and many years later, as an adult, was adopted by Dennis and Mary. Quite the testament to a wonderful couple and the love they had for others.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Bacon; his daughter, Cecilia Landrum; two grandsons, Rafael Queiroz and Daniel Queiroz; two siblings, Barbara Davis and Robert Bacon; close family friend, Michelle Vroman; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Margaret; his siblings, Bill, Jack, Dick, and Susie; and his son-in-law, Timothy Landrum.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation is being conducted. A graveside service will be scheduled in the coming days. Military honors will be given to Dennis by the United States Air Force, to honor his time serving his country. Condolences and memories may be expressed to his family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
