Obituary

Darren Lee DeWitt, age 55 of Colon, passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2025 in Battle Creek, MI.  he was born in Sturgis, MI on March 25, 1970 the son of Warren and Louise (Schultz) DeWitt.  Darren attended Sturgis High School, where he would meet the love of his life, Darla Caldwell; whom he would eventually marry on October 21, 1993 in Sturgis. From age 18 to over 30 years of marriage, Darren loved Darla to no end.

For nearly 40 years, Darren was a talented welder and fabricator, working on projects ranging from recreational vehicles, campers, trailers, cars, bikes, ect.  If it was made of metal, he could fix it and improve it.  He loved and rode motorcycles his entire life and was part of the Twisted Renegades Club.  Every weekend Darren was involved in a charity ride, helping those in need; even starting his very own charity ride, Warren's Ride for Autism.  For a decade, he was famously known as "The Burnout King".  Darren listened to wide variety of music, one rule, it had to be played loud.  He was a gearhead at heart; however, his heart belonged to his family, causing mischief with the kids during nerf and marshmallow gun fights. He was a wonderful husband, fantastic father, and a dear friend who will be missed by many.

Darren is survived by his loving wife, Darla DeWitt; three children; Tonya (Nick) Smith, Michael (Melissa) DeWitt, and Darin DeWitt; father figure to; Mike Sterner, Jeffery Elliot, Ryan Abbott, Krista Bower, and many more; grandchildren; McKenzie, Ryan, Mason, Malachi, Makiah, Zahn, Ryker, and Warren; siblings; Jeffrey DeWitt, Keith DeWitt, James DeWitt, and Billy Green; and many extended families.  He was preceded in passing by his parents; Warren and Louise DeWitt.

In keeping with family wishes, cremation is being conducted.  A memorial service for Darren will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 2pm at New Beginnings Church (63022 M-66, Sturgis, MI 49091) with Pastors Randy Evans and Robert Ruhs officiating.  Condolences and memories may be expressed to his family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
