Daneel R. "Dannie" Smith, age 66 of Mendon, died Monday, Sep. 23, 2019 at her home. She was born in Trenton, MI on March 15, 1953 the daughter of Jack and Kathryn J. (Hall) Van Schoick. Dannie graduated from Colon High School with the class of 1971. She was a former teacher's aide at The Pathfinder Center in Centreville, the former manager of Mystic Grove Apartments in Colon, and has been employed at Maxitrol in Colon for the past 17 years. She enjoyed being outdoors and working in her garden.

Dannie was married to William R. "Bill" Smith on March 29, 1987 in Colon. He survives along with three children, Tina Kent of Ovette, MS, Maria Kent of Colon, and Doug Kent of Finley, OH; three step-children, James (Angela) Smith of Orland, IN, William M. Smith of Elkhart, IN, and Sonnie Smith of St. Augustine, FL; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four siblings, Sandy (Gary) Klein of Mendon, Cindy (Tommee) Sanford of Sturgis, Jack Van Schoick of Panama City, FL, and Jim (Chris) Van Schoick of Horton, MI; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister in law, Wai Van Schoick.
