Culia Lorene Ackerman, age 82 of Vicksburg died Friday May 24, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo following a five-month illness. She was born on March 11, 1931 the daughter of Russell and Mildred (Louden) Vance. She was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Vicksburg High School. Culia was married to Walter Ackerman on Dec. 9, 1948 in Kalamazoo. Together they were devoted members of Kingdom Hall, Vicksburg. They also spent the past 16 winters in Arizona where she enjoyed rock collecting, hiking, and four-wheeling. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and bible study with her many church friends.
Culia is survived by her husband of 64 years, Walter; three children, Cindy (Terry) Houser of Leonidas, Shelley Pruitt of Florida, and Evelyn (Jim) Whitmer of Schoolcraft; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce (Arthur) Ehlers of Vicksburg; and a brother in law, James Myers of Vicksburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Bernice Myers.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday May 29, 2013 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Elder Gary Rugg of Kingdom Hall, Vicksburg officiating. Burial will be in North Fulton Cemetery.
