It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother, Charles William Groth IV, a man with unwavering perseverance.

Charles (Bill) was born November 26, 1968 in Sturgis Michigan, the son of the late Charles Edward Groth III and JoAnn (Frays) Groth.

Charles was a proud 1987 graduate of Centreville Public High School . He played football, was a drummer in the High School Band and Jazz Band. He also was a Boy Scout for many years, a member of the Trail Blazers Saddle Club in 4H, and participated in DeMolay International for many years. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Centreville.

Charles served his country for 10 years in the United States Navy where he worked as a Nuclear Engineer. Once returning home from duty he began other endeavors including working part-time for the St. Joseph County Police Department, serving as the Sherman Township Supervisor as well as many other community oriented jobs. He continued his learning and became a plumber. He was well known for his exceptional work and diligence.

Charles had a passion for adventure and discovering new things. He enjoyed his Navy tours and especially enjoyed visiting the Holy Lands. His spirit of adventure is what landed him in Idaho. He shared this ambition with his children and gave them many experiences and memories for the future to share. He had a sincere love of family and family gatherings and especially for playing cards. Bill had many friends and contacts and was very good about staying in touch with the people he cared about.

Charles’ legacy of humor, perseverance and sense of adventure will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His strength and determination will be an inspiration and testament to the power of his unbreakable spirit enthused with curiosity and resilience. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a brother, Frank Ryan Groth, and a stepson, Connor Hawkins.

He is survived by his daughter, Hailey (Groth) Stradley, residing in Oregon, and stepsons Christopher and Cameron Hawkins residing in Michigan. His two sisters, Tammy Hughes of Sturgis and Holly Fryling of Three Rivers, as well as many Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who all loved him dearly.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be held in his honor on November 7, 2026, at Kline’s Resort Clubhouse, 22460 Kline’s Resort Rd., Three Rivers, Michigan. Visitation with the family at 3 pm, followed by the service at 4 pm.
