Cecelia Klein Semenczuk, age 92 of Portage died Monday March 2, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born on June 20, 1922 in Kalamazoo to John and Elizabeth (Higgins) Klein of Mendon, Michigan. She graduated in 1939 from Vicksburg High School, attended Western Michigan University, and graduated from St. Camillus School of Nursing in Kalamazoo. Cecelia served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps in Burma and India for two years during World War II. In 1946 she was united in marriage to Joseph Semenczuk who preceded her in death in 1990. Seven children were born to their union: Susan (Tom) Gotschall, Michaeline Turbeville, Cynthia (Gerry) Lagasse, Therese White, Lisa (Bill) Mack, Joseph (Susan) Semenczuk, and Matthew (Paula) Semenczuk.

Cecelia worked as a nurse for various doctors and facilities, including as a clinical supervisor at the Kalamazoo State Hospital. She retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Battle Creek. Cecelia was married to Norman Skippers from 1993 until his death in 2010.

In addition to her children she is survived by eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, one brother, Robert (Patricia) Klein, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and two brothers.

Visitation will be held at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday March 5th followed by recitation of the Rosary at 7 pm. The family will also receive friends from 9 to 11 am Friday March 6th in the narthex of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Vicksburg where mass will begin at 11 am with Rev, Christopher Ankley officiating. Cremation will follow services with a private interment of ashes in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Mendon. Memorial contributions may be directed to either St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, The Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, or Ministry with Community of Kalamazoo.
