Beatris l. Maki, age 93 of Surprise, AZ died Saturday Nov. 15, 2014. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI on June 8, 1921 the daughter of Clayton M. and Elva G. (Metty) Ingraham. She attended schools in Elkhart, Indiana and Rockton, Illinois and was a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Beatris loved music and won contests in middle school and high school and played in both the concert and marching bands at Drake University. She was married to Albert Maki on Oct. 10, 1941 in Detroit and they resided in several areas of the country during their 60 year marriage. They retired to Arizona in 1984. Albert died on April 20, 2011.
Beatris volunteered at hospitals in St. Charles, IL and Willard, OH and for the Girls Scouts of America in California and Massachusetts , She was active in the formation of the League of Women Voters while in New Hampshire where she was also active in the Republican Party. She enjoyed being active, whether it be at work or joining her husband in hunting, fishing, and attending athletic events.
A memorial service was held 10 a.m. Friday Nov. 21, 2014 at the Chaparral Winds Retirement Center in Surprise, Arizona. She was buried next to her husband, Al in Mendon Cemetery in St. Joseph County, Michigan. An online register is available at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
