Amos D. Hochstetler, age 86 of Findley Road, Sturgis died Wednesday April 11, 2012 at the home of his daughter, Ella Mae (Freeman) Bontrager. He was born in St. Joseph County, MI on March 28, 1926 the son of the late Dan M. and Anna S. (Wickey) Hochstetler. Amos was married to Ida D. Bontrager on Dec. 18, 1947 in Centreville. They lived in Holy Matrimony for 56 years, 11 months, and 9 days. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He was a very kind and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Amos is survived by 7 sons, Ora Jay (Barbara) Hochstetler, Melvin A. (Orpha) Hochstetler, Vernon A. (Katie Mae) Hochstetler all of Centreville, Elva Ray (Neoma) Hochstetler of Sturgis, Tobie A. (Leah) Hochstetler of Mendon, Amos A. Jr. (Delilah Mae) Hochstetler of Centreville, and Owen A. (Irma) Hochstetler of Colon; 1 daughter, Ella Mae (Freeman) Bontrager of Sturgis; 59 grandchildren; 115 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Ervin D. (Polly) Hochstetler of LaGrange, IN, Danny Jr. (Edna) Hochstetler of Shipshewana, IN, John L. (Katie) Hochstetler of LaGrange, IN; 3 sisters, Barbara (Mose, deceased) Yoder of Nottawa, Mary (Ora, deceased) Miller of LaGrange, IN, and Edna (Merle) Christner of Shipshewana, IN; 1 sister in law, Susie (Henry, deceased) Miller of Centreville; and many nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; an infant son; an infant grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
The family will receive relatives and friends at his son, Melvin Hochstetler's home located at 25938 Truckenmiller Road, Centreville, MI on Thursday April 12, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m., and all day on Friday. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday April 14, 2012 at the Melvin Hochstetler residence with Home Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Order Amish Cemetery in Centreville. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.
